Spring Salmon, aka springers, have started to enter the Upper Rogue River. We caught our first ones over the weekend, and had a handful of other chances. With the high water this year it’s delaying their migration upriver, but should continue to get better every week. Our early success has all come on back bouncing eggs cured in Pautzke’s Fire Cure. Flows are forecast to jump way up due to increased outflow from Lost Creek Dam. That will make it harder to bounce the traditional salmon holes, and I expect to find more fish in the travel lanes with plugs and divers until flows recede.
Reports from the Lower Rogue have been some of the best fishing we’ve seen in years. Although they may take a little longer to get to us in the upper river, when they do show up I expect great fishing all season long.
