Rogue River Fishing Report – Apr 19

Our winter steelhead season on the Upper Rogue River has generally been a bust. We’ve had some success, but nothing like we are used to. Luckily the spring salmon are on their way and fishing has been good for them on the Lower Rogue. The first springers have been caught in our stretch of the Upper Rogue River at popular bank fishing spots like Hayes Falls and the Hatchery, so we will start to catch them from the boat any day now.

I’ve been getting a few questions about the news reporting that salmon season is closed for Southern Oregon. That will only affect the ocean fisheries, and not the rivers that we fish. The Rogue River will be open all season, as well as the Elk and Sixes later in the fall. The biologists are predicting the salmon runs to be near the 10 year averages which should provide us with much better fishing than 2016. Also with the commercial salmon season closed off our coast we should see even more salmon returning to our rivers.

Here’s a few pictures from April last year to get you excited…
