September came in with a bang, but slowed down for the second half of the month for fall salmon on the Rogue. We had a good push of fish move in Labor Day weekend which saw one of my best days ever salmon fishing on the Rogue. However, we never received another push of fish and things started to slow down after that. Overall it was still a productive fall salmon season, and I was able to take 3rd overall in the annual Middle Rogue Steelheaders derby.
October is looking up for our late run of summer steelhead and coastal fall salmon. We are currently receiving some much needed rain, which will get the steelhead on the move locally, and the first salmon moving into the coastal rivers. November 1st also marks the reopening of the Upper Rogue to the use of bait which is almost always some of the best fishing of the year. I still have plenty of dates available for that and coastal fall salmon on the Elk, Sixes, and Chetco rivers.
